Artificial Intelligence and Therapy
American Psychological Association released a guide on using AI thoughtfully and mindfully.
Key Considerations when using AI or supplementing therapy with AI are 1) AI is designed to agree with you rather than challenge you and essentially create an echo chamber and 2) one of the main reasons psychotherapy is beneficial and effective is the human connection (or what we call the “therapeutic alliance”) and having another human bare witness to your experiences with unconditional positive regard. AI is a machine and cannot meet this biologically driven need.
